'Beef' burger is one third horse ... so what?

So I was going to respond to Amanda Vanstone this week, highlighting the way she misconstrued most of my points from last week in order to score a few cheap ones for herself, but then I remembered that British supermarket chain Tesco sells horse. Horse! There's been a small kerfuffle over the last week in the UK after Irish food inspectors discovered that a sample of supermarket chain Tesco's "beef" burgers contained 29 per cent Phar Lap. Cue the inevitable "I could eat a horse" tabloid headlines and general handwringing about unwittingly dining out on an animal most people wouldn't like to dine out on. Thing is though, horse is perfectly edible, and in places like France and Japan it's on the menu. (Of course there it's labelled "horse", not beef.) I've never eaten horse, although I probably would, as I figure that if you're OK with eating one non-endangered an

CityRail network are delayed up to 60 minutes because the hottest day of Sydney

Trains across the CityRail network are delayed up to 60 minutes due to overhead wiring and signal problems and the extreme heat. Train tickets can be used to catch Sydney Buses and Sydney Ferries services instead. Trains to the city on the Airport & East Hills Line are still not stopping at Kingsgrove, Bexley North and Bardwell Park. Buses are now replacing trains between Wyong and Fassifern on the Newcastle & Central Coast Line due to overhead wiring problems at Dora Creek. Buses are also replacing trains between Campbelltown and Moss Vale on the Southern Highlands Line due to a bush fire. Buses are also replacing trains between Maitland, Scone and Dungog on the Hunter Line due to a train with mechanical problems.

Holden improves Captiva fuel economy

HOLDEN has improved the fuel efficiency of all engines across its popular Captiva SUV range by as much as 10 per cent as part of a no-cost upgrade that also brings more standard features to some variants. The improvements come courtesy of "powertrain calibration refinements" to each of the three engines offered across the five-seat Captiva 5 and seven-seat Captiva 7 range, with Holden also giving both petrol options flex-fuel capability, allowing them to run on E85 bio-ethanol as well as unleaded. E85 bio-fuel, which consists of 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent petrol, is a cleaner-burning fuel that can reduce carbon dioxide emission by up to 40 per cent over petrol, according to GM Holden figures. Two of the three variants offered in Captiva 7 – a rival for the Toyota Kluger and Ford Territory – have also been handed a longer features list, with the base SX getting rear park assist and the range-topping LX now including heated front seats and front parking sensors.
