Notification - Protest at townhall station

Protest at Town Hall – 15/05/12

We have been advised that there will be a pro-Palestinian rally which commemorates the displacement of Palestinians in 1948. The protest will assemble at Town Hall around 6pm, leaving at 7pm to travel down George St, Market St, Pitt St and King St before returning to Town Hall.

Police have asked COMMUTERS, especially motorists, to make alternate travel plans this afternoon, with the peak-hour CBD protest set to cause major traffic delays.

Police and the Traffic Management Centre are working to facilitate the protest and develop traffic management plans in an attempt to minimise the impact on peak hour traffic and pedestrian safety.

All bus passengers in the CBD will be able to use their tickets to catch Sydney Ferry and CityRail services between 4pm and 8pm today to help ease disruptions to their travel. It is therefore likely that there will be traffic disruptions from 4.00pm onwards.

The Transport Management Centre has warned that buses will be delayed and may be diverted during the protest.

Please ensure that you pass this information on to your staff members.
